Assisteens®

Assisteens2009.JPG

Students in grades 7-12 participate in Assisteens and volunteer in the Bargain Box Thrift Shop on Saturdays. The monies raised from the sales those days are used to support their service projects.

They conduct other fundraising activities during the year to fund their two main social events: Welcome Dinner and an End of the Year Recognition Dinner.

Assisteens Philanthropies

Assisteens donate their time working in the Bargain Box. Proceeds from income generated by their hours of service support their two main philanthropies located in Pasadena: Union Station Family Center and Harrambe School. The funds raised enable Assisteens several times a year to purchase supplies to make sack lunches and goody bags containing toys and food items for the families staying at Union Station Family Center, which is a 50 bed facility. They also supply them with much needed items such as toiletries, art supplies, bedding and clothing. The forty children at the Harrambe School receive birthday boxes with party ingredients supplied by the Assisteens.

Assisteens also donate their time tutoring school-aged students after school at the Child Education Center in La Canada. Children in grades one through six receive help with academic subjects and computer skills. Members also baby-sit siblings of children attending Canada Auxiliary of Professional's (CAPS) "Sprouts" program while parents and teachers meet together .
